Short Summary: In re-doing our streets let’s have wider sidewalks for pedestrians, bicycle path for cyclists, lanes for cars, medians to slow down traffic and improved store front façades. Let’s add trees, benches at bus stops and lighting…and street vending? As the picture is painted and then made come to life by redevelopment many low income communities of color are poised to loose a major lifeline, street vending. Street vending is the heart of economic survival for local economies and many families. This workshop will discuss the importance of maintaining street vending in the Los Angeles landscape. Presenters will discuss the street vending work of East LA Community Corporation and its community members in Boyle Heights.
