Liz Elliott, Executive Director and founding member of C.I.C.L.E, avidly promotes cycling as an important way to connect with community and care for the earth and all of its inhabitants. Before moving into full-time bicycle advocacy, Elliott enjoyed a variety of professional experiences that ranged from operating a rural grocery store on Montana’s Flathead Indian Reservation to managing a luxury travel corporation. A long involvement with political, social, and environmental justice issues have led her to serve as a Montana Democratic Precinct District Representative and to volunteer with the Community Supported Agriculture program. Elliott majored in theater arts at San Francisco State University. She is a League Certified cycling instructor.

Shay Sanchez, Program Director and Founder of C.I.C.L.E., discovered the joys and benefits of transportation cycling after a diagnosis of Lupus forced her to limit her cycling to short in-town trips. She founded C.I.C.L.E. in 2002 to create a greater awareness of utilitarian bicycling, and to address the manifold issues related to auto-dependency in a positive and solution-oriented way. Sanchez is the primary developer of C.I.C.L.E.'s extensive web-based resources, and of the "Bikes in the City: Education Program." She attended San Francisco Academy of Art and Otis College of Art and Design and has worked as a freelance graphic artist and web developer, mostly serving nonprofit organizations, such as California State Parks Foundation and Friends of the L.A. River. Sanchez is a League Certified cycling instructor She has lived car-free since 2006.
